Why is PPE important to preparedness? Take this activity from the perspective of 5 characters to understand the complexities of PPE, preparedness, and COVID-19.
The global COVID-19 pandemic has presented unique complexities of how countries are prepared against pandemics both internationally and domestically. We wanted to use this unique time period and experience to investigate the controversies surrounding personal protective equipment (PPE) and the lack of preparedness in the United States for the COVID-19 pandemic.
In this interactive activity, you have the chance to engage in the decision making process of the United States through various avenues surrounding PPE: manufacturing and distribution, politics, culture, and public health. There are 5 different characters that you can choose to embark on a decision making journey with.
Once you choose a character, you will be given a series of decisions to make regarding pandemic preparedness. For each scenario, in-depth explanations are provided for you to reflect upon the complexity of PPE in biological and social ways.
The overall goal for this project is to understand how the factors of PPE preparedness have influenced the current events of the COVID-19 pandemic. We created this project to analyze how factors of PPE preparedness have influenced the current events of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In creating an interactive experiential activity, we hope to shed light on the complexities, nuances, and controversies surrounding PPE culture, stockpiling, distribution, manufacturing, and international relations.
In the end, we hope that individuals who engage with this project will better understand how the biology of PPE and the social aspects into PPE preparedness have impacted the way in which events have unfolded during this pandemic. Through an analysis of biological, cultural, political, and economic aspects in relation to COVID-19, we hope to reveal the complexities embedded within a pandemic, learn from past pandemics, and better prepare for the future!
