Since the start of the Human Genome Project, genetics was promised to deliver answers to questions about society that were previously a mystery. Since then, genetics has entered the social sphere in nearly every major discipline: science, law, politics, television/film, etc. But could this overrepresentation of genetics be a sign of something more? Perhaps making the concept of genetics more deterministic? In Society Through DNA, we explore ideas of genetic determinism in our society, the mechanisms that keep these ideas prevalent, and what changes can be made to reduce or eliminate them. While our humanity leaves us with endless questions, genetics may only be giving us some of the answers.
